DIY Chalkboard Chargers

Step by Step Chalkboard Charger Plates - Pocketful of Posies

Hi Everybody!

Today I am back with one of many follow up posts to my Thrifted Fall Table.  Today I will be showing you how I turned some inexpensive thrifted chargers into these beautiful Chalkboard Chargers.

While I was out on one of my recent thrift store shopping excursions I came across a stack of gold chargers when inspiration suddenly struck!  They would look great on my fall table as mini chalkboards!  It was the perfect design solution because they could be used as easy and practical name cards or to add a little quotable inspiration to the table.  Plus they are easy to store and better yet the whole project only cost me $2! Since all of my supplies were left overs from other projects.

This is what they looked like when I brought them home.  Not too bad, but they definitely lacked some personality.  To prep them for paint, I gave them a light sand with a 220 grit sand paper (affiliate) and then applied a coat of Rust-Oleum Liquid sander/deglosser (affiliate).  Since the chargers were plastic this will help to give them as solid base to adhere to.

Since chalkboard paint is not specifically designed for plastics I primed my chargers with a coat of plastic friendly paint.   There was no particular reason for color other than it was simply what I had on hand.

To finish up my Chalkboard Chargers I sprayed them with two light coats of Rust-Oleum Spray Chalkboard Paint (affiliate).  After they dried for 24 hours the only thing left to do was to decorate them!

To help me plan out my graphics and fonts I used a few of my favorite pins from some of my favorite bloggers for inspiration.  To see these pins and all of my fall decorating inspiration check out my It’s All About Fall Pinterest Board!

My new chargers are the perfect backdrop for my Fall Table and I especially love all the quotable inspiration!

I couldn’t be happier with the way this spur of the moment project turned out!  It was just what my table needed to come together!  What item brings your table together?  I would love to hear about it in the comments below!
