No Sew Patchwork Cable Knit Table Runner

DIY Table Runner out of upcycled sweaters

Hi All!

Today I am back with another tutorial from my Thrifted Fall Table Post.  Last week I shared my tutorial for these Adorable DIY Chalkboard Chargers and today I am showing you how I made this simple No Sew Cozy Patchwork Table Runner.

For this project I used two similarly colored knit sweaters from the thrift store, another table runner and some Thermobond Fusible Web (affiliate).  To save time money and frustration I used the back of one of my summer table runners for this project. Now instead of having two table runners taking up space, I have one reversible table runner.   A win win for decorating and space saving!

To start this project I cut my two sweaters into a different sized square and rectangle pieces. I recommend a variety of sizes to keep the pattern random.  Because the pieces will be layered on the table runner there is no need to worry about measuring the pieces first.

Next I flipped my table runner over so the back was facing up. and started to layout my pattern.

Once all my sweater pieces were laid out, I cut the Thermabond into strips and began applying it around the back edges of each piece using and iron.  Once they were cooled, I removed the paper backing and ironed them into place on my runner.  Be careful not to push too hard when ironing the pieces into place.  The sweater material is very stretchy and can easily shift and stretch under the iron.  After I finished ironing all my pieces, the only thing left to do was to clean up the edges with a sharp pair of fabric scissors.   That’s it!  This is a very fast, inexpensive project, and it looks great to boot!

I love that this runner can be easily flipped from summer to fall!

  1. This came out great. I would have never known you made this yourself…it looks like you could have purchased this from pottery barn or something. love it.

  2. How creative. It’s such a unique table runner and very pretty. Doing double duty as fall and summer is great. Thanks for partying at Snickerdoodle Sunday.
