DIY Rose Garland made from upcycled materials

Hi Everybody!

Today I am back with this super cute DIY Fall Rose Garland I used to decorate my Fall Mantle in my 2015 Fall-Oween Home Tour and if that wasn’t exciting enough I have teamed up with Hometalk and a whole slew of awesome bloggers to bring your cute and easy Fall DIY projects! To see all of their amazing hard work please scroll to the bottom of this post.

For any of you who have been following me for very long you know that one of my favorite materials to work with is old clothes.  And today I am going to show you how I used a pair of old jean and sweater scraps to make this cute banner.

To start my project I made 7 yellow sweater roses and 9 denim roses using my How To: Easy Beautiful Fabric Rose Tutorial.

Once all my roses were sewn together I cut two pieces of sisal twine that I measured by draping them over my mantle.  After adding several inches to each end (to be used for hanging loops) I folded the twine in equal distances until I had the correct number of spaces and rose placements.

I then marked each rose placement on the twine with a sharpie marker.  When all my marks were in place I began hot gluing the roses to the twine and then glued a small square (approx 0.75 x 0.75″) of felt on the back of the rose over the twine.  Be careful as each rose is attached that the twine is not twisted.  This can cause the garland to hang weirdly later.

After all my roses were in place I simply tied the two strands to gather and then tied the remaining twine into loops so my garland could easily be hung over the fire place.
