Hi Everyone!

Last week I share my big plans for our New Year: New Room Refresh Challenge and this week I am back to share the progress I’ve made so far on my Living Room Refresh.

While I wouldn’t say it has been the most productive of weeks, I did get a few things on my big living room refresh accomplished. The real action starts this week.   My tiles from Smart Tiles will be arriving soon, along with my wallpaper from Wallpaper Boulevard, chandelier, ceiling fan & curtains from Wayfair.   And I will finally be able to start my fireplace makeover!  So don’t forget to check back next week to see all my progress!

This week was mostly about decluttering for me.  I removed a lot of the accessories from my space and started with a blank canvas.  Then I gave my little office corner a mini refresh with a new DIY Dry Erase Calendar.  Improving not only the functionality of this limited space but also giving it a cleaner, sleeker look.

I also picked up a few fun accessories from World Market that were in my design plan and rolled out my new rug from LampsPlus.    I really wanted to see how the pieces would interact in the space and with each other.   While I think we all love the idea of just showing up and having a completely newly decorated space.  I believe living with the changes, even if it’s only for a day or two before making more is the smartest and best way to go about a room makeover.  It allows time to figure out what works and what doesn’t before committing to the next step.  Ultimately saving both time and money on unnecessary changes.

I have to say that after living with my changing space I am totally loving the new combination of colors and textures.   My new rug from LampsPlus has totally changed my space completely.  Everything is lighter and brighter.   Suddenly the pinkish tile on my fire place doesn’t stand out nearly as much as it used to and even the dirtyish off white/tan of my chairs looks better!   If there is one thing that has the power to change the whole room it is a rug!

Now all that’s left to do for my living room refresh is to complete this laundry list of projects!

  • slip cover both midcentry modern chairs
  • Install new chandelier
  • “Tile” fireplace surround with Smart Tiles
  • Add wallpaper, trim and crown molding to fireplace
  • Paint the inside of the fireplace and insert with back heat resistant paint
  • Reseal coffee table
  • Hang new curtains and reinforce existing curtain rod
  • Figure out what side table to use and placement
  • Determine what accessories will come back into the space
  • Makeover Thrifted Ottoman
  • Change layout?

What do you think of the changes so far?  I really love how much lighter the room feels, not only in brightness but the lack of unnecessary accessories has really made my living room space feel more airy.  Please don’t forget to jump over and check out everyone’s progress this week!!

  1. Yay for striped rugs! The room looks so much brighter and I love the pop of pattern and color that the new rug brings in.
