Hi All!
Can you believe it’s already time for another Create & Share Challenge? Every month Danielle with Creatively Homespun and I challenge the ladies to make something fun with a particular item or concept, and this month we challenged everyone to make their own special vase!
Now you may be wondering why a vase? Well, why the heck not?!? Mother’s Day is just around the corner and it’s time to start thinking about fun ways to surprise mom, so why not surprise her with a beautiful new vase you made especially for her filled with her favorite flowers? That is exactly what I will be doing!
Easy Candle Jar Makeover
For my DIY Vase I decided to give this old candle jar a makeover. Something I should have done about 8 months ago. Yes, it’s really been siting in my garage for the last 8 months with a hunk of candle wax still sitting at the bottom. This fun little vase project was the perfect time to pull it out and give it a new life!
- Old Candle Jar/Vase
- Krylon Sea Glass Spray Paint
- Twine, or Rope
- Pan
- Stove
- Water
- Paper Towels
- Tongs
- Rubbing Alcohol
- Hot Glue
I started making over my Candle Jar by filling a pan with water and placing it on the stove over medium heat. I then place my candle jar in the cold water and let it heat up with the water. Now you don’t want to melt the wax, just soften it so you can remove it. This only takes a couple of minutes.
When the wax has softened pry it out with a butter knife. Then place the jar on its side back in the water. Once the leftover bits of wax has melted out. Remove it from the pan using a pair of tongs and wipe out with dry paper towels. Discard the water and repeat. Once you have done this twice. Wipe the outside of the jar off with rubbing alcohol. This removes any remaining wax, grease, dirt, etc. that will interfere with the spray paint.
After the my candle jar was cleaned I simply gave it two quick coats with the Krylon Sea Glass Spray. Then wrapped the top with some twine and secured it with hot glue. That’s it! Seriously super fast and easy! My old candle jar has a new life and I was able to make it using supplies I already had on hand. Whoop!
Thank you all so much for stopping by to check out my DIY Candle Jar Makeover! I hope you enjoyed it! Remember its not the measure of the gift that counts, it is the thought that counts!
