Hi All! I know, its been a while. A very long while and I’m sure you are all wondering where I’ve been. The truth of it all is pretty simple actually, I’ve just been taking a little time off. It wasn’t exactly planned time off but definitely needed. Life has been a little crazy around here recently and when it gets that way something has to give, in this case, I had to give here. So after a short break and a whole lot of prayers I am back and ready to share some new projects with you. You’ll want to check back soon because I’ve been a busy bee and I have several new posts coming! My first new post (and really awesome project) is something I’ve been kicking around in my brain for quite awhile now. And I have to say I’m super excited to share it with you! It’s this adorable Sip, Sip Hooray! Serving Tray. It all started with a few random furniture spindles I picked up at a yard sale some time ago. (Insert hollowed themed flashback here) I was lucky enough to score them for $0.25 each! But I didn’t know what to do with them.
DIY Sip, Sip Hooray! Serving Tray
Finally inspiration struck while watching a Fixerupper rerun. You know the one where they go really overboard making over the “french country” house and the people are really obnoxious. Yeah, that one. Well, in the dining room of that house on a shelf is the cutest wood serving tray with feet. Adorable, and I’m sure really really expensive. So what do I do with my $0.25 spindles? Make them into an adorable footed serving tray of course! Add a cute quote and it’s the perfect project for our Backyard Bash Silhouette Creators Challenge!

- Old board
- Salvaged Furniture Spindles
- Chop Saw/Miter Saw
- Wood Stain ( I used Minwax Weathered Oak)
- Wood Glue
- 4 Clamps
- Sander
To start my Sip, Sip Hooray! Serving Tray I grab and old piece of wood out of my scrap pile and sanded all the old paint off. After removing all the dust I stained it with Minwax Aged Oak Wood Stain and sealed it with a coat of Verathane.
While everything was drying I grabbed my four furniture spindles and cut them in half using a Miter saw. Then using my laptop and my Silhouette Machine made a quick Silhouette Studio design and cut it onto Freezer Paper. To read all about my Freezer Paper Stencil Hack read this.
Next I added a little bit of black chalk paint using a stencil paint brush. Then I removed my stencil and let the paint thoroughly dry.
Once my design was nice and dry I distressed it with a little bit of 220 grit sand paper. Then I flipped the board over and measured 1″ from each corner and drilled a hole using my electric drill and 1/2 drill bit. I was very carful and drilled very slowly so I wouldn’t drill through the top of my board.
Finally I filled each hole with glue and added my new spindle feet. Then using 4 adjustable clamps I clamped down each foot and let them throughly dry for about 12 hours.
Then Viola! Okay, maybe not Viola! But it was still a fairly simple project. My Sip, Sip Hooray! Serving Tray was finished! And it turned out just as cute as I knew it would!
Well there you have it folks, my least favorite episode of Fixerupper inspired Footed Serving Tray. Made completely of recycled materials and it is so dang cute I can hardly stand it! Thank you for stopping by to check out my latest project! I’m sooooo happy to be back up and creating again! Also, don’t forget to check out everyone else’s Backyard Bash Silhouette projects! They won’t disappoint!
This is great. I love the saying but I think my favorite part is the little spindle legs. They really make it stand out!
Thank you so much Michelle! I’ve loved those little spindles for so long! I’m so glad I finally found a use for them!
