NYNR: Creating a Creative Office Big Reveal!

It’s finally reveal day around here for the New Year New Room Challenge and I am so excited to share my new creative office with you!

Every year I look forward to participating in the New Year New Room Challenge that my amazing friend Stephanie at Casa Watkins Living puts together. It is always such a cool experience to watch a room change in such a shot period of time. Its really amazing how when we focus our attention on one thing how quickly it comes together.

Now normally when I participate I’ll paint a little, change a few things out, and freshen up the space. But not this year! Since we bought our new house this year, I knew I wanted to take full advantage of the challenge and really dive into something a little more drastic. It has been a tiresome, and occasionally grueling journey. But more than anything it has been a rewarding experience I will never forget.

I have learned more about myself and my capabilities on this diy journey than any I have ever done before. Without a doubt it was my largest DIY project ever. Full of things I have never done before. But I made it! With a little help of course! From my husband, to my project partner in crime, Father in Law and one of the best Uncles out there I had a lot of people giving my strength and advice on tacking some of these monumental steps. In order to truly appreciate how far we’ve come we really have to go back, waayyy back to the beginning.

To this sad, dark, and dated landing. Covered in 1970’s paneling, full of 1000’s of nails, and more cable jacks than any space, big or small, has a right to. More than anything it was D-E-P-R-E-S-S-I-N-G.

Once we got the paneling off we began to see the light, literally! Aaaannndd how much work it was truly going to be to get it all fixed.

No matter how much work it all was, the outcome has been worth it all! I really can’t believe this is my new office! I just keep walking around staring at it trying to take in all the details and really just how beautiful it is.

There are so many stunning details that make up this space. Like this beautiful custom pillow from Loom Decor. It added just the right amount of a classic pattern I’m obsessed with (stripes) and the velvet piping is stunning!

I can’t even begin to tell you how obsessed I am with this wallpaper from Milton and King. It’s the first time I’ve ever gone this bold with a wallpaper before and I’m going to be honest with you, I might be hooked. It brought in just the right level of detail, pattern, and color to this space!

I filled my new builtins with all my decor books I love to sit and flip through, some of my favorite vintage finds, and a few fun and unique pieces like these had made brass bowls from BohoLuxe.

The slightly off white wall paint (Silver Satin, by Benjamin Moore) accented with Velvet Finishes Minimalistic paint on my new buitins is just stunning.

One of the most impactful updates we added to this space was simply adding lighting. Before we had one, very, very oddly placed wall light that basically did nothing. Now we have lights, real lights and in an appropriate place! And they’re not just any lights, they are the perfect cherry on top of the perfect sunday. These Randolf light fixtures from Hudson Valley Lighting are perfect because they are timeless and stunning!

When we finally got new family pictures taken this year I knew I wanted to make a gallery wall with them. But finding just the right sized frames was a nightmare. Everything I tried was too small, too weird and just too blah. I knew I wanted to do something with a large mat, but finding frames like that is really difficult. That was where Art to Frame came in.

Art to Frame’s website is super easy to use. I was able to tell them exactly how big my images were and how big I wanted my mats to be. Then they custom built the frame around it all! Best of all I was able to see a real rendering of exactly how it would all come together in the end. My new custom frames are stunning!

And I love this new modern floral pillow I got from Loom Decor! It added just the right touch of edgy pattern to balance out all of the other classic details.

Through all the ups and downs and hours and hours of plaster repair we kept our goal and our design plan at heart. We knew we wanted to give our old lady some of her class back and by keeping the bones of our design classic, simple, and clean we’ve managed to create a space that is stunning and will be timeless in the years to come!

Don’t forget to stop by and check out all the amazing before and afters! They are stunning!!
